IS IT STRESS OR ANXIETY?

What’s the difference? Aren’t anxiety and stress the same thing?

No. They can have similar symptoms, but they are very different.

Life happens – and stress is part of life. It just is. Stress can be negative or it can be positive.

Our body responds to a change, according to how much control we feel we have in the situation. The less control we feel we have, the stronger our reaction will be.

Stress is usually caused by an emotional trigger. Something that’s short term like a fight with a friend or losing your job or finishing a deadline project.

Anxiety is about persistent, excessive worries that don’t go away, even when the problem you were stressed about is over and done.

The stress hormone adrenaline is super helpful when we need it for an extra push of stamina or help in a dangerous situation. But it’s NOT good when used over a prolonged period of time. Too much adrenaline usually causes physical and emotional strain on our bodies. Like high blood pressure, digestive and sleep problems, lowered immune system, headaches, muscle aches and pains.

Stressed people live poorer and shorter lives.

Louise Hay said “resentment, criticism, guilt and fear
cause more problems than anything else.”

Consistent worry and fear causes stress. And unmanaged stress can lead to anxiety.

Consciously choosing to reduce stress is a HUGE help in improving our mental and physical health. Methods I like are Breathwork, meditation, nature walks, positive self talk, doTERRA essential oils, play, creativity, service, forgiveness and gratitude.

When we experience anxiety that feels out of control, and interferes with living our normal daily lives, we need to take action. This might be an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders affect 40 million adults a year, and is one of the most pervasive mental health disorders in our country.

Do you know of someone who could use some soothing? Breathwork is wonderful for soothing stress and anxiety. I do Zoom or garden Breathwork sessions. click here to email me and I’ll get back to you right away. Or you can call me at 615-212-5511.
